Memory Bear Pocket Hack

Who doesn't love a pocket?

This pocket can be used to hold mementos, a small notebook and pen, or anything else you can think of. I used part of the back piece to make this pocket, and this same technique can be applied to any other stuffed animal pattern with a solid back piece.

All expansion patterns are free, but you will need the full Fostering Sewing Memory Bear Pattern and Tutorial. It is available in my Etsy shop:

I can't wait to see what you make with this pattern!

Materials Needed:

Cutting Layout: Cut two of the pattern piece.

Put the Pocket Together

Align the pocket pieces, right sides together. Stitch along the top of the pocket piece using 1/4" seam allowance (indicated by a blue line in the photo below).

Flip the pocket pieces so that the wrong sides are touching and press the seam. Top stitch along the top of the pocket at about 1/8" (indicated by a blue line in the photo below).

Add the Pocket to the Full Back Piece

Align and pin the center marking on the bottom of the pocket piece and the center marking on the bottom of the back piece. The pocket should be on top of the right side of the Back piece fabric. Then pin the corners at the bottom of the pattern piece, the alignment markings in the center of the curves, and the corners at the top of the curve. Pin the top corners of the pocket on so that the pieces lay flat together.

Stitch along the perimeter of the pocket, indicated in blue in the photo below. Do not stitch along the top of the pocket (indicated in pink) as this needs to be left open to create the pocket.

You Are Now Ready to Sew the Memory Bear!

The Back piece is used the same way in the final memory bear whether the pocket hack is included or not, so you are now ready to set this piece to the side and dive into the main tutorial! Please let me know if you have any questions!
