Tuk Tuk is the adorable and roly poly companion in the new Disney movie, Raya and the Last Dragon. I knew that he needed to be an option for my new pattern, and I am so happy with how he turned out! The face on my sample is a tsum tsum style (and I included templates to make the nose and eyes pictured here), but I would love to see you experiment with the face for different looks!

Note that the documents included in this blog post are just an add on to the pattern, and cannot be used without the original roly poly pattern.

Assembly

Choose your body style. You can use either the standard or rolling style. See page 3 of the tutorial for more information on where to find instructions for each style. Follow the tutorial instructions to put together the body top, rear, (optional) pleat, and back.

Choose the Foot or Toed Foot and follow the instructions for sewing the feet and attaching them to the body bottom. Page 16 of the tutorial goes over these steps. The image below shows how the feet look once they are basted onto the body bottom.

Lay two antenna pieces, right sides together. Stitch with a 1/4" seam allowance, clip the curves, and turn right side out. Repeat with the other set of antenna pieces. Lightly stuff if you desire and set them aside until later in the sewing process.

Sew the two Tuk Tuk face pieces, right sides together, clip the curves, and set aside.

Attach one Tuk Tuk Top Side Head to the Tuk Tuk Top Center Head. Repeat on the other side of the Top Center Head. Press the seams open.

Follow the Isopod/ Pillbug tutorial for attaching the head top to the face (page 21 of the tutorial)

Baste the antenna in place to the top of the Top Center Head. Use a 1/8" (or scant 1/4") seam allowance.

Follow the Isopod/ Pillbug tutorial for attaching the Tuk Tuk head to the body (page 21 of the tutorial)

Attach the fully assembled body top to the body bottom, stuff, and ladder stitch. Use the instructions on page 22 of the tutorial.

Pin the Tuk Tuk nose and eyes onto the face until you are happy with the placement. Then glue or whip stitch them in place. Feel free to experiment with different styles of eyes and noses for different looks for your Tuk Tuk.
